What steps do I need to take to become an Airbnb host in Budapest?

⚠️ IMPORTANT: A moratorium is in effect in Budapest from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2026 — no new short-term accommodation can be started, no new NTAK registrations are issued. Only accommodations registered by 31 December 2024 may continue operating. In District VI, a complete ban on short-term rentals is in effect from 2026.

To legally start short-term rental, you need to complete these steps in order:

1. Townscape notification (if required by your district)
2. Tax number registration with NAV
3. NTAK registration
4. Accommodation rating
5. Accommodation management software certification
6. Operating permit application (district municipality)
7. IFA (tourism tax) registration (municipal tax office)
8. Building tax registration

The order matters because each step is a prerequisite for the next. The entire process typically takes 6–12 weeks.
